The information that I’m learning from my strategy class can be applied to my life as well. If a strategic vision for a business would focus the corporation’s efforts towards a winning goal, then a strategic vision for an individual would do the same. If I were to apply concepts from strategic management in my life, then I would have a common vision to share with my household (when I have one), provide consistency to my decisions, focus on doing “the right tasks”, define a long-range plan for my life, and provide a framework for major areas of my life (i.e., family, career, health, etc.)
To develop a life strategy, I would need to look at the trends that surround me (environmental scanning), articulate my personal vision (mission statement), and identify my strengths, skills and resources (core competencies).
